National Trust of Australia (ACT) Plaque for Outstanding Project for the Owen Flats

Philip Leeson Architects was awarded a National Trust of Australia Plaque for Outstanding Project for the Owen Flats.

The Owen Flats is part of a public housing scheme that lined both sides of Northbourne Avenue consisting of flats, maisonettes and paired houses. The development was designed by Ancher Mortlock and Murray in the modernist style of the day and built in the early 1960s.

By the early 21c they had become obsolete and no longer met the need of the ACT Government and large portions of the development was sold off. However, representative samples of each type were retained and listed on the ACT Heritage Register.

Philip Leeson Architects worked with JWLand to reinvigoration of this important heritage place.
