The building employs both active passive solar principles. It is built on a water heated tiled concrete slab to maximise thermal absorption. Wall systems include insulated cavity blockwork and reverse brick veneer. Roofs are insulated and their zincalume steel cladding reflects heat. Heating and cooling is via a 'water to water' heat pump which extracts latent energy from the constant temperature of the surrounding soil and circulates hot water through the floor slab and chilled water through fan coil units in the ceiling.
